Left much as it was when the town was finally abandoned, this Franklin cast iron stove and cabinet are themselves in a state of arrested decay. While I would give my eye teeth for that beautiful oak cabinet, the best I could hope for is this image, a whisper of that which once was. I chose to photograph this image in vertical to match the nearly straight stovepipe and the tall lines of the cabinet. I also chose to convert the image to black and white and add a vignette to create the enigma of fantasy the is any photograph but especially attenuated in the monochrome image.
Bodie State Historic Park is a genuine California gold-mining ghost town. Visitors can walk down the deserted streets of a town that once had a population of nearly 10,000 people.
