Christmas Day 2016 in the Superstition Wilderness along the Second Water Trail. It matters not what season one photographs on the Sonoran Desert, the desert always has a new face to greet its hikers. Outside of Spring, when the desert is in full bloom, Winter is my favorite season to roam the desert, to select old trails or new, in generally beautiful weather and without the pesky heat of Summer and Fall.

This image was created while following the Second Water Trail from the First Water Trailhead in the Superstition Wilderness. The trail takes one through a wide range of Sonoran Desert landscape including overlooking Garden Meadow with Black Mesa to the far side of the meadow. This image is looking in an easterly direction just after the trail splits in two.
