Description
On a rather balmy summer day, I was walking down Lake Shore Drive in Chicagos Gold Coast and passing one of Ludwig Mies van der Rohes earliest Chicago buildings when I looked up. There it was, blue curtains amongst a sea of white. I framed the image making sure to catch the blue curtains and made the RAW exposure. During post-processing I decided to increase the contrast and saturation of the blue curtains while reducing the color saturation of the buildings east face in the sun. The buildings south face was already in deep shadow and I seperately reduced saturation on that face as well. I also used the camera raw filter to adjust for the building distortion caused by photographing up with a fixed lens. This adjustment is similar to what one might do using a view camera to adjust for this distortion.

I processed the raw image, shot with a Canon 60D with an 18-55 Canon lens, file using Photomatix Pro 5, filters from Topaz Labs including Detail 3 and DeJPEG 4 as well as some minor tweaking in Photoshop including sCurve adjustments, brightness, saturation and the camera raw filter to produce this HDR image.
