Niagara Falls, Ontario, is a Canadian city at the famous waterfalls of the same name, linked with the U.S. by the Rainbow Bridge. Its site on the Niagara River's western shore overlooks the Horseshoe Falls, the cascades' most expansive section.
The verdant green color of the water flowing over the Niagara Falls is a byproduct of the estimated 60 tons/minute of dissolved salts and "rock flour" (very finely ground rock) generated by the erosive force of the Niagara River itself. The current rate of erosion is approximately 1 foot (0.30�m) per year, down from a historical average of 3 feet (0.91�m) per year.
I photographed the Maid of the Mist boat, it sails from the American side of the falls. The blue plastic raincoats are one way to mark the boats sailing from the American side. The boats sailing from the Canadian side use red slickers. I photographed this image as the boat was about to turn directly into the mist formed by the crashing of tons of water...
