Niagara Falls, Ontario, is a Canadian city at the famous waterfalls of the same name, linked with the U.S. by the Rainbow Bridge. Its site on the Niagara River's western shore overlooks the Horseshoe Falls, the cascades' most expansive section.
The verdant green color of the water flowing over the Niagara Falls is a byproduct of the estimated 60 tons/minute of dissolved salts and "rock flour" (very finely ground rock) generated by the erosive force of the Niagara River itself. The current rate of erosion is approximately 1 foot (0.30m) per year, down from a historical average of 3 feet (0.91m) per year.
I photographed this image standing by the edge of the falls on the Canadian side of the Niagara River and Falls. With the camera on a tripod and the shutter set to 0.4 sec. the raging power of the falls and the accompanying mist is evident.
