Artist's Description

After spending nearly a month on the Nebraska plaines, travelers along the first leg of the Oregon, California and Mormon Trail, basically following the Platte River, saw, in the distance, their first landmark, Chimney Rock.

Designated the Chimney Rock National Historic Site, Chimney Rock is one of the most famous and recognizable landmarks for pioneer travelers on the Oregon, California, and Mormon Trails some 180 or so years ago, a symbol of the great western migration

I processed this image of Chimney Rock to give a feel of an antique photograph, one that might be familiar to those traveling through Western Nebraska in the late 1800�s.
