Description
I photographed these two saguaro cacti in the Superstition Wilderness along the Dutchman Trail. This area of the Tonto National Forest lies in the Sonoran Desert, the only place on earth that saguaros grow as a native plant.
The Sonoran Desert along with the Mohave where Joshua Trees, a tree-like yucca, are the two places on earth that remind me of those old three-reel cowboy movies of my youth. I rooted for Gene Autry but never Roy Rogers.
I photographed this image on the Dutchman Trail as the northeast was looking like it was getting ready to rain. The drama of black and white along with some contrast tweeks and a small vignette focusing the viewer on the center rear where the clouds were already dumping much needed rain on the desert.
I turned around at this point because I had to cross two washes; I did not wish to be caught in a flash flood. Turning around here seemed like the most prudent thing to do.
