Description
People have been drawn to the rugged coast of Maine throughout history. Awed by its beauty and diversity, early 20th-century visionaries donated the land that became Acadia National Park. The park is home to many plants and animals, and the tallest mountain on the U.S. Atlantic coast. Today visitors come to Acadia to hike granite peaks, bike historic carriage roads, or relax and enjoy the scenery.
I photographed this image of the tide rolling in near Thunder Hole in Acadia National Park on Labor Day in the US. I selected black and white for this image because as Ansel Adams once remarked, Black and White IS the color of photography. This image of waves striking jagged rocks in Frenchman Bay as they pummel the northern coast of Desert Island was not only fun to watch but, also, fun to photograph. The noise of the waves striking rocks just off the coast, the spray created by this constant action demonstrates the power of the ocean as it carves new features across the landscape.
