Description

One of the most spectacular sights along the North Atlantic Seaboard is Otter Cliff in Acadia National Park. At 110 feet high, it is one of the highest headlands north of Rio de Janeiro.

Located on Mount Desert Island, in Maine, it is just .7 miles after Thunder Hole next to the Park Loop Road. An ocean path parallels this section of road from Sand Beach to the north, past Thunder Hole, arriving at Otter Cliff, providing numerous vantage points for spectacular views.

I photographed this image looking away from Otter Cliff into the part of Otter Cove north of the bridge on the loop road. The tide was out exposing barnicles along the limestone to the left. The thick green trees against the slate gray sky made a nice contrast.

I processed the raw image file shot with a Canon 60D with an 18-55mm IS lens using Photomatix Pro 5, filters from Topaz Labs including Detail 3, BW Effects, ReMask 4 and DeJPEG 4 as well as some minor tweaking in Photoshop including sCurve adjustments, brightness, saturation and the camera raw filter to produce this Black and White HDR image.
