I found this Utah Juniper along the South Rim of The Black Canyon of the Gunnison National Park. It seems that there is more to see there than just the canyon itself, beautiful in its own right but the remainder of the landscape on both rims is also stunning in its own right; all it takes is a little bit of looking, of being aware of our surroundings, to see what others fail to see. I processed the raw image file using Photomatix Pro 5, filters from Topaz Labs including Detail 3 and DeJPEG 4 as well as some minor tweaking in Photoshop including sCurve adjustments, brightness, saturation and the camera raw filter to produce this hdr image. I donate 25% of the profits from the sale of this image to PROJECT ZERO: The Project to End Prostate Cancer in order to help develop better detection, prevention and a cure for this killer of males around the world. This image is, as are all my images, protected by international copyright conventions and may not be reproduced for commercial use wit...
Forty-eight of my most popular images (based on views and sales) are found on the front page of my images gallery. Others love them, perhaps you will too! The second page of my images gallery displays my most recent images (unless one or more made the front page and was replaced by a more popular image.) Don't forget to look there and beyond too. _____________________________ I divide my time between Chicago in the summer and Phoenix in the winter. The first hint of cold, generally sometime in late October I flee the dreadful weather and head to Arizona. Conversely, when the temperature reaches 105 degrees for five consecutive days I run from the dreadful heat back to the humidity of the midwest. That, my friends, explains the split...

I wish I could thank the buyer personally but I cannot. FAA doesn't share that information. So if the buyer of my image "Old Utah Juniper" sees this, a most hearty thank you. I truly appreciate your purchase and I hope it provides you with years of joy.

I love this tree and the shrubs that surround it. However, I believe this photograph has been photo shopped. Great art work!
Roger Passman replied:
I wonder why your belief that creating a photographic image using photoshop is somehow negative. The tool for processing film, the darkroom, was something like a positive thing. Why in the world is photoshop manipulation somehow a negative thing. Photoshop is the tool one uses for digital photography and is no different than tools open to photographers in the darkroom only photoshop affords us with the ability to not have to repeat the process every time one prints an image. Yes, I used photoshop. I also used Photomatix Pro 5 and filters from Topaz Labs and ON1 in creating this image. I do not miss the smell of rotten developer or the stench of hypo on my hands for hours after leaving the darkroom. I am happy to be alive during the digital age and I do make use of tools available to re-present to an audience the vision I had when exposing the digital image in the first place.

The color here is brilliant - kind of feels like being out in that hot Southwestern sun! Congratulations on your sale.
Roger Passman replied:
Thanks so much Nikki. I was returning from the climb to Delicate Arch when this Utah juniper jumped out at me. I love this tree.
