I began photographing at Moraine Hills State Park in McHenry, Illinois in the early pre-dawn on a rather cool October morning. I set up my camera and tripod at a spot where the sun would rise from the left of the image and the layers of grasses and trees in this marshy ground would provide a natural step back to the horizon. The whispy clouds were clearly an enormous aid in the construction of this image. This image, one of a series shot at 5 minute intervals came from the earliest exposed that cold morning. The sun is not quite yet over the horizon but the bright yellows overtaining the soft pinks of the early morning sunrise tells me it won’t be long now.
