Description
When one thinks of canyons cut by the Colorado River, the Grand Canyon generally comes to mind. The river, however, is (was) quite active cutting canyons all through Arizona. Marble Canyon is just downriver from Horseshoe Bend, one of the more recognized spots on the Colorado. Marble Canyon, however, is a sleeper, sparcely visited yet a beautiful record of what rushing water can do to a landscape. I photographed Marble Canyon from the Navajo Bridge which takes one into the tiny, unincorporated town of Marble Canyon where one finds a gas station, convenience market and hotel. One day I will explore the landscape around Marble Canyon, just not this day.

I processed the raw image file shot with a Canon 60D with an 18-55mm IS lens using Photomatix Pro 5, filters from Topaz Labs including Detail 3, BW Effects, ReMask 4 and DeJPEG 4 as well as some minor tweaking in Photoshop including sCurve adjustments, brightness, saturation and the camera raw filter to produce this Black and White HDR image.
