Description
The saguaro cactus is native to the Sonoran Desert. Found in Arizona and the Mexican state of Sonora, this cactus may grow to a height of 70 feet, the height of a seven story building. Arms begin to grow when the Saguaro is somewhere between 50 and 75 years old. They can live for between 250 and 275 years old.
I photographed this saguaro in the Superstition Wilderness section of the Tonto National Forest. Hiking on the Apache Trail toward Superstition Mountain I saw this amazing old cactus so I went off trail for about 50 yards to get the view you see in this image.
