Description
The Grand Canyon, one of America’s oldest National Parks, is an awesome sight. I first encountered this unimaginable landscape 52 years ago; each subsequent visit to the park was met with suprise, something different at which to marvel. It is impossible to photograph the park as a whole, rather, one must look at each new revelation and photograph each new understanding as best as possible with limited tools and technique. This series reveals to a viewer ways in which I saw the park in April, 2017, a current visual understanding of this magnificent place.
Looking down from the rim at The Watchtower overlook one cannot help but be dazzled by the rich red-orange and rust colors of the Navajo Sandstone contrasted by the subtle greens of the desert vegetation grabbing hold wherever there is a place to take root. This image of a dry desert wash near the bottom of the Grand Canyon is one that harnesses the rich geological diversity of the canyon in a small yet vibrant section of the Grand Canyon.

I processed the raw image file shot with a Canon 60D with an 28-105mm lens using Photomatix Pro 5, filters from Topaz Labs including Detail 3, and DeJPEG 4 as well as some minor tweaking in Photoshop including sCurve adjustments, brightness, saturation and the camera raw filter to produce this Black and White HDR image.
