The Grand Canyon, one of America’s oldest National Parks, is an awesome sight. I first encountered this unimaginable landscape 52 years ago; each subsequent visit to the park was met with suprise, something different at which to marvel. It is impossible to photograph the park as a whole, rather, one must look at each new revelation and photograph each new understanding as best as possible with limited tools and technique. This series reveals to a viewer ways in which I saw the park in April, 2017, a current visual understanding of this magnificent place.
This image re-presents the first view of the canyon approaching from the East. One cannot help but be awed by the immensity of the gorge that completely fills one’s field of vision. From the clarity of the foreground to the chimera of the cliffs disappearing into the mists of the background, this colossal place remains simply wonderous.
