This ancient bristlecone pine tree, found in the Patriarch Grove in the Ancient Bristlecone Pine Forest, a segment of the Inyo National Forest, is relatively young, perhaps only 1500 years old judging only by the size of its trunk and its full foliage. Other trees in this grove are older than 5,000 years old, the oldest living organisms on earth.
According to Wikipedia the Ancient Bristlecone Pine Forest is east of the Owens Valley, high on the eastern face of the White Mountains in the upper Fish Lake-Soda Spring Watershed, above the northernmost reach of the Mojave Desert into Great Basin ecotone. The forest's mountain habitat is in the Central Basin and Range ecoregion (EPA) and Taiga and Boreal forest ecoregion (WWF). The Patriarch Grove is the source of Cottonwood Creek, a designated Wild and Scenic River. Patriarch Grove begins at the visitors center and a self-guided tour leads a visitor to many trees including the world's largest bristlecone pine, the Patriarch Tree.
