Visiting the Ancient Bristlecone Pine Forest in Inyo National Forest is truly an uplifting experience. These trees are the oldest living things on earth, some are over 5000 years, that’s 5 with 3 zeors, old. Some grow with twisted trunks while others, like the tree in this image, grow straight and tall. Some, like this tree show signs of death yet still are quite alive. This Bristlecone has its downhill roots exposed but erosion has piled enough weight on the uphill side to keep the tree from toppling down. As one looks at the exposed roots it is sometimes difficult to distinguish them from the calcium rich dolomite soil the Bristlecone Pine thrives in. The 300 foot vertical climb over about a half-mile is worth the trip when you visit the eastern Sierras. ____________________ A limited edition of 25 prints signed and numbered by the photographer are available directly from our studio.
