Description
Superstition Mountain is located at the western end of the Superstition Mountain Range that is around 60 miles in length running from Globe to Apache Junction Arizona. I spend a great deal of time in the Superstition Wilderness hiking and making photographs. It is the home of the mythical Lost Dutchman Mine, the tall-tale of the Dutchman who lost his mine worth millions somewhere in the Superstition Mountains. No one since has been able to locate it either.
I photographed this image of the mountain in the late afternoon on a partly cloudly day. Spring on the Sonoran Desert is astonishing as new life forms on the desert. This image of the mountain, however, only contains the red of a single blooming ocotillo in proximity to the giant saguaro. Photographed along the Crosscut Trail (58) it is one of my favorite views of the mountain.

I processed the raw image file shot with a Canon 60D with an 18-55mm IS lens using Photomatix Pro 5, filters from Topaz Labs including Detail 3, BW Effects, ReMask 4 and DeJPEG 4 as well as some minor tweaking in Photoshop including sCurve adjustments, brightness, saturation and the camera raw filter to produce this Black and White HDR image.
